About the Seacoast Division of the NMRA
Mission: Seacoast Division of the NMRA's membership promotes model railroading throughout Maine and New Hampshire through education, promotion of model railroading activities, serving as local resources for individual model railroaders, and supporting local model railroad groups.
Slogan: "Share the fun of model railroading"
The Seacoast Division of the National Model Railroad Association (NMRA) was formed on November 17, 1968, for the purposes of serving the model railroaders of Maine and New Hampshire. Today, there are approximately 200 members in the Division. The Division is one of 11 active divisions of the Northeastern Region (NER) of the NMRA. Seacoast Division members also take advantage of activities sponsored by the NMRA, the NER, and other divisions.
The Division holds four regular meetings each year in four alternating locations:
- January - Portland, Maine
- April - Union, New Hampshire
- August - Auburn, Maine
- October - Stratham, New Hampshire
At these meetings, the members exchange "how-to" clinics, listen to presentations, display models and dioramas, ask questions, and have special activities such as layout tours, operating sessions, and other experiences.
- The Division produces a quarterly newsletter, The Switch Tower, which contains news items, articles of interest to model railroaders, and schedule of upcoming events.
- The Division has organized its own Free-mo modular group.
- The Division organizes special activities such as operating sessions on member layouts. It is exploring other activities to sponsor for the benefit of its members.
- Representatives of the Division attend local train shows to answer questions and offer clinics to the public, as well as Division members in attendance. They interact with other model railroad hobby organizations at these events in order to find ways to improve the hobby experience for all.
- The members are available to help each other in many ways to enjoy the hobby more:
- Improve modeling skills
- Access to layout design ideas and information
- Increase operating performance of home layouts
- Offer other assistance as desired
